ANALYTICAL EXPOSITION

1.     1.  Definition

-        Skill analysis is the ability to build information into smaller categories in order to draw conclusions. Analytical skills consist of categories that include logical reasoning, critical thinking, communication, research, data analysis and creativity.

 

 

2.     2.  Purpose

-        The main objective in Analytical Exposition Text is to try to convince the reader that the topic presented is an important topic to be discussed or to receive attention by providing arguments or opinions that support the main idea or topic.

3.Structure

Structure of Analytical Exposition

-        1. Thesis : Introduces the topic and shows speaker or writer’s position;

Outlines of the arguments are presented.

 

-        2. Arguments : It consists about Point and Elaboration

Point, states the main argument

Elaboration, develops and supports each point of argument

 

-        3.Reiteration : Conclusion (restatement), restates speaker or writer’s position

 

3.   4.   Expression/ Sentences

 

-        1)            Using the simple present tense

For example, "I think bullying in school is really bad. Every child has the right to go to school and get an education. No child should ever be made to feel that school is a place where they will be mistreated."

 

-        2)            Using words of mental process

Words of mental process are words that express thoughts, perceptions, or feelings. Examples are think, see, feel.

 

-        3)            Using words of relational process

Words of relational process are words that express the process of change (being, having, becoming).

 

-        4)            Using words that connect phrases and sentences

Words that connect phrases and sentences initiate new points in an argument. An example is the use of the words because, so that, and due to.

 

·        Analytical exposition text also has language features such as using modals, action verbs, thinking verbs, adverbs, adjectives, technical terms, general and abstract nouns, and connectives or transitions
